Surveying began long time ago and developed independently in different parts of the world. These modern methods and equipment enhance accuracy and most of the ancient problems have been solved.

As old surveyors aged and things changed the information gathered over time was collected and stored. It is from this information that survey material was built from. Survey course material was one of the most important information derived from ancient surveying information. In order for a person to become a surveyor they must have good knowledge of trigonometry, calculus, geometry, and algebra. In addition, they must also understand the laws on contracts, and real property.

The basic principles of surveying still remain the same despite the changes witnessed in this field. Land surveyors have several duties and responsibilities but their main role is to establish the boundaries of real property on the ground. They are also responsible in establishing where infrastructure such as walls, dams, pipelines, reservoirs and roads are to be placed. They are the ones to mark and record property boundaries.

Modern surveyors are able to do a lot of work because they use technological equipment. These practitioners work together with chainmen and assistants. The work of assistants includes locating mark points and old reference marks. They also place target reflectors. Survey technician perform calculations, draft plans, operate instruments, and do survey in the field.

It is important to hire an experienced and qualified surveyor to perform any surveying tasks. If one hires a fraud they can be sued for hiring an unlicensed surveyor despite losing money to the fraud. A legit surveyor can be identified from their license numbers.
