Longmont CO Puppy Training Tips

By Rebecca Johnson

As soon as you get a new puppy, the training process should begin. It is not always easy to get started with this, but it will be rewarding. You will be thankful once the puppy grows up and becomes more obedience. Longmont CO puppy training is necessary, just like you would raise one of your children. At times, you may think of going to a professional class, because this can also be helpful.

Of course, one has to find the balance. A lot of owners are too pushy when they get a new puppy. Remember that they are making a new adjustment to their surroundings. At this stage, they will need a lot of love and care. It is important that you make them feel at home, especially in the beginning. As time goes by, you can enforce more discipline, but there are ways in going about this.

When you are choosing your dog's name, it is important to do this with care. Make sure that you find something easy and quick that the dog will understand. This is good for the purposes of discipline. Dogs with shorter names will learn them with greater ease. The longer names are difficult to adjust and adapt to. You will have an easier time with a less lengthy name as well.

It is not easy to discourage a puppy form biting, chewing or nipping. However, this is something that one has to look into. You don't want your puppy to bite your guests. It can be very annoying when they eat all of your shoes. You can discourage this by buying him lots of toys and bones. He will know that this is what he needs to bite and gnaw at, instead of your clothing items.

Have a set time when you practice training the puppy. These sessions should be short where the puppy is able to learn from various commands. They won't be able to take in too much at one time. Make sure you repeat these commands over and over until moving onto something new. Provide them with a lot of encouragement during this time.

Housebreaking can be something that can be frustrating for many dog owners. You need to find a spot where the puppy knows that they can go to the toilet on a regular basis. Eventually this will be programmed into their brain. Take them outside after they have eaten and allow them sniff around. They will soon learn that this is where they must go to the toilet as well.

Everyone is different, and they will want to promote various rules for their dogs. This will depend on the individual and how relaxed or formal they are. Some folks want their dogs to sleep on their beds with them. Others don't mind if they sit on the sofa. However, there are people who have a bed for the dog and this is where they stay.

Obviously you will want your pup to have a fair amount of exercise. However, in the beginning, they will also need to sleep a lot. You have to introduce this gradually with short walks in the beginning. Take them on daily walks so they start to get used to it. Make sure you walk in front of the young dog so that it knows who is boss.
