Give your cat a bath using a good anti-dandruff cat shampoo. Thoroughly wash and rinse the coat; any extra shampoo left in the coat will only make the problem worse. Human shampoos are too harsh and will amplify the problem.

Supplement your cat's diet with omega-3 fatty acids. This can be done by adding a small amount of tuna to your cat's diet or by buying an omega-3 supplement designed for cats from your local pet store.

Put your cat on a diet. If your cat is overweight, it will not be able to groom itself properly, and dandruff will form.

Place a humidifier in the room where your cat spends most of its time. If your cat develops dander during the dry winter months, lack of humidity might be causing your cat's dry skin.

Go see a veterinarian. If none of the above options alleviate your pet's flaky skin, it might have a serious medical condition such as allergies or a parasite. Seeing a vet will help you determine the cause of your cat's problem.
