Small Dog Breeds A Fast Introduction

By Mike Hartwick

Buying a dog can be a real commitment and depending on how large they are also very costly one. Fortunately when owning one of the small dog breeds everything is simpler and less expensive from toys to vaccinations.

There are so many wonderful breeds to choose from that everyone can easily find one that suits them. Each has its own characteristics and traits they are known for, whether that be hair length or personality.

For those who are looking for a high energy companion the Jack Russell Terrier may be the perfect fit. In fact this breed is known to be one of the most energetic of all despite its small size. Because of this they are best suited for active adults or families that have children that are a little older and normally require at least an hour of exercise or play per day. These are smart little dogs with big personalities.

High energy dogs are not for everyone. A more subdued breed is the Pug. Originally from China, they functioned as lap dogs. With one of these, a brief exercise session is all that's needed. But, be sure not to go take yours' out when it's too warm since this breed is not good at dealing with very hot temperatures. Their size and lower energy requirements make them one of the best small dog breeds for apartment dwellers.

Deciding what you will call your tiny pooch is one of the amusing parts of buying one. You might want to think about using the name of something that is really enormous which is always a funny way to go. The best female and male dog names actually often come from the owner's favorite movies or books. Picking one that you personally like is very important because you will be using it daily and for years into the future, so take your time when choosing.

Even if you don't have a lot of space, you can still enjoy the all the benefits of owning a canine. Whether you prefer your fur baby to be full of energy or a little more laid back there are many small dog breeds to choose from that can meet your needs. And of course names to match the look and personality of your pooch.
