Wood surface coatings. This is an effective way of protecting the wood surface from decay caused by moisture. The surface coating method basically involves the application of the coating solution on the surface of the wood to create an impermeable layer which moisture cannot penetrate. However, for this method to be effective, one must be sure to cover all gaps in the wood surface with plywood first before applying the coating.

This method involves the use of solutions of rubber products, fiberglass resins, and cement. This method also saves time allocated for the process.

Contrasted with the surface coating, this method is more expensive because its materials are more expensive and it requires expert labor which may add to the expenses. However, the sheets used in this method may appear unattractive over time due to fading.

Locking decking is another method of protecting a wooden surface deck from decay. This method involves the replacement of wood blocks with extruded aluminum planks for easy drainage of water. In this method, an aluminum waterproof solution is applied to the wood surface to prevent any moisture from penetrating into the wood surface.

This method is very effective because it deals with two problems at a go. It gives the deck that amazing finishing touch and also protects the wood surface from decay. However, it is very expensive because aluminum planks are very expensive and require more intense and skilled labor to install. Therefore, it can be a burden to middle-income earners to afford.
