Incurable Cat Diseases

Every cat lover will tell you that they love their four-legged friends like a member of the family. When a cat has symptoms of an illness, it can be a sad and scary time in a loving pet-owner's life. Many cat illnesses are treatable and your cat will recover in a short period of time. Unfortunately, there are a few cat diseases that are incurable and will be fatal to your cat.

Feline Immunodeficiency Virus

Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, also called Feline AIDS, is an autoimmune disease that is passed through the bodily fluid of cats, such as blood, saliva and milk. It can be passed from cat to cat, or from mother to kitten through the milk.

Feline Infectious Peritonitis

Feline Infectious Peritonitis, also known as FIP, is a flu-like virus that quickly attacks the immune system of cats. It can be seen in dry form, seen with fever and paralysis, or wet form, seen with vomiting and diarrhea. Both forms are deadly.

Polycystic Kidney Disease

Polycystic Kidney Disease, also known as Feline PKD, is characterized by cystic growths appearing in the kidneys of a cat. It is particularly rampant in pure-bred exotic cats, such as Persians and Himalayans.

Progressive Retinal Atrophy

Progressive Retinal Atrophy, also called PRA, is the shrinking of the retina in cats and can lead to irreparable blindness (see Resources).

Feline Diabetes

Feline Diabetes is an incurable disease characterized by the cat's inability to balance insulin production in the body (see Resources).
